I just finished watching the movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. This movie made by Ben Stein shows how the beliefs of "Intelligent Design" and "Creationism" are being suppressed by the scientific community as being equal scientific theories along with "Darwinism" and "Evolution." It is not a movie that show Religion vs. Science. It is more of a argument that Free Speech is being denied to a group of people who believe something other than what "main-stream" America wants them to believe.
He presents compelling arguments and documented proof that notable scientists are being dismissed from their jobs and "blacklisted" by the mainstream scientific community for even mentioning that Intelligent Design could be a possible answer for many scientific unknowns.
Mr. Stein then goes on to show the possible ramifications of this continued oppression of freedom of speech. He shows how it is possible that by neglecting to even allow Intelligent Design. or Creationism, to be taught could possible lead to the oppression of other ideas and freedoms that the main stream of society could consider "dangerous" or "oppressive." He compares this oppression to how the East Germans, lead by Soviet Russia, built the Berlin Wall to keep out certain ideas and beliefs that they did not like.
He then goes on to show how blind, or misunderstood, beliefs in Darwinism and Evolution has lead to horrible acts of violence and oppression by groups of people like the Nazis against such groups as the Jews and the mentally or physically handicapped. He states that this is also the reason why so many people today are impartial to such acts as abortion or euthanasia.
Ben Stein, along with many notable scientist believe that God and Science can exist without the suppression of the other. In fact both together allows one to become a better scientist in general.
Don't just take my word for all of this. Watch the movie for yourself and make up your own mind. Another movie that follows this theme is called The Case for a Creator, where journalist, Lee Strobel goes on his own quest to separate fact from fiction in regards to Evolution and Creationism.

Talk about the emperor having no clothes, the only substantive part of ID is as a negative argument that diametrically opposed to evolution, otherwise it has nothing of substance to offer science. Imagine teaching ecology in school without a fundamental understanding of Darwinism and evolution. What would ID tell these students, other than the showing and teaching these alleged students the incredible complexity of nature? What’s the explanation for these systems and their numerous interactions? God did it of course. Cool huh? Sorry, that’s not science and I challenge any ID proponent to demonstrate a single predictive model that ID can make regarding living organisms and their present day ecosystems. There are no models, they got nothing but faith. I have my faith too but the difference is I don’t subject you to it. Science is not faith but a way of reasoning and we need all the good scientists we can get with the way we are tanking the environment. Erik, Nice of you to blog on my web-site and not leave a way for me to leave a comment on your site to reply to you in person.
I don't think supporters of Intelligent Design or Creation supporters are trying to subject you to what we believe, we only want a chance to be able to present our theories as well. Meanwhile, supporters of Darwinism or Evolution are very much subjecting others to their beliefs by presenting Evolution as a fact (in regards to the creation of life) when it has NEVER been proven to be true. Christians and other religions believe that God created the universe, but we admit we cannot prove it. We too believe our theory to be fact, but at least most of us will present it as a possible theory when talking to others about it, rather than present it as fact.
Most Creationist or Intelligent Design supporters don't reject evolution in regards to changes within species that already exist. We know some species have changed since they were first discovered. However we strongly object to aliens being the designers of life on Earth. Where did the aliens come from? Even if Evolution did help create life as we know it, where did the ingrediants that caused life come from. Science itself says that something cannot come from nothing. But all the stuff in the universe, had to come from somewhere...and many scientist agree, that maybe, just maybe, there may be a God or a Creator responsible. It's a theory that needs to be explored. Don't you think.
Why can't you comment on www. millenniumwriting.com? I have had dozens of comments by ID proponents and creationists on that blog. I even had a creationist put a plug in to sell their books. Maybe I am missing something because I do believe a dialog is critical so please let me know.
Secondly, I think Mr. Dawkins is a bit of a jerk and that whole alien rambling is unbelievable. He does not speak for all mainstream scientists no more than the Pope speaks for all Christians. Moreover, Darwinism and evolutionists are concerned with the modeling of the evolution of species not their creation.
As to the creation of the universe there are many astrophysicists who are not content to let the start of universe begin with a singularity or god as some may have it. Hence they have moved on to string and brane theory to postulate a more complex model regrading the origins of the universe. Biologists, I will say, have been a bit slower on the uptake regarding how life started. Again, I will add that I am not ruling out religion, I am not an atheist, its just not science.

erik:
If you are not ruling out religion, then you believe in the POSSIBILITY of a god/creator/force. If that's the case, then logic would lead you backwards to a starting point for everything that we see and explain with science. Therefore, that god/creator/force is the author of science. You don't have to throw your brain (also a product of the god/creator/force) out the window to accept the idea of Intelligent Design.
Again, the whole point of the movie is that some bright, highly regarded scientists (and perhaps some wacko ones) are being blacklisted because they believe that Intelligent Design and science can co-exist in some form. They should be allowed to believe this while retaining their jobs and distinction.
We are all subjected to the same ultimate truth.
